A Garden Full Of Cultural Delights 2018
In our 9th year of delight in St Leonard’s Gardens we created an opportunity to develop understanding and friendship beyond religious and cultural difference, towards a community where bonds of respect and love are enhanced by enjoying each other’s Cultural Delights; by way of dance, music, food, dress and community initiatives. We were pleased to be encouraged in our endeavor by Hastings Mayor Cllr. Nigel Sinden and Council Leader Peter Chowney.
It was wonderful to see such a variety of faiths, ethnicities and age groups, all enjoying each other’s company. Acromax gymnasts, Gizmo kids, Chinese Dancers and Bexhill Keralan Community all exemplified the value of sharing joy with the wider community while passing on skill and beauty through the generations.
Trace Walton chilled us with a taste of the Southern States, Bjorn and Adrian took us into a Hot Swing, Tania Pieri jazzed us with harmony and Tim Hoyte shared his beautiful song writing skills. Finally, Section Five Drummers stirred our spirits and many joined in the Celtic Swing with circle and barn dancing led by Viv.
Numerous local charities and community groups, Moslems, Anglicans, Baha’is, Catholics and Quakers engaged with the community; Play Development and Active Hastings entertained the children and we were filled with delicious falafels, haloumi, Afro-Asian delicacies, ice-cream and cake by local caterers.
Many thanks to our precious volunteers and our generous funders, Hastings Borough Council and Chalk Cliff Trust, and to all of you for sharing in an occasion through which we could feel as one family rejoicing in the pleasure that comes from our diversity.
Have a great summer!!
